Mockingjay

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, Book 3) by Suzanne Collins

The ending tricks people into thinking the series was actually good. Now when I say the ending, I'm pretty much talking about the last two chapters. Mockingjay actually has a really good, heart warming ending. But looking back at the series as a whole, it's really not that great.

The Hunger Games was good, but I felt it could have ended there. The following two have way too much emotional downtime and it takes forever for anything to happen. The worst part for me though was the authors approach to the various plots: the games, surviving the games, and the rebellion. She focused so much on the spectacle of the events rather than the actual events. I think if she dropped the whole "camera crew following Katniss around for propaganda footage" aspect, it would have given the story a more serious undertone and a little more edge.

I was going to give this book 2 stars, but the ending was it's saving grace.

P.S. The movies are better.
